Intune removes legacy Apple MDM software-update UI
October 2026 · This month
Microsoft · medium confidence · Last verified October 15, 2026
What breaks
Starting with Intune’s October 2026 (2610) service release, the legacy Apple MDM software-update policies and related reports are removed from the Intune admin center. Devices that still depend on those MDM update commands can fail to update.
Who is affected
- Admins who still assign iOS or iPadOS update policies in Intune
- Admins who still assign macOS update policies in Intune
- Anyone using the legacy iOS or macOS update-installation-failure reports, or the per-device macOS software updates report
Source notes
The Community Hub post says Apple removed the legacy MDM software-update commands in OS 27, and Intune removes the matching admin-center workloads in the October (2610) release: iOS/iPadOS update policies, macOS update policies, the per-device macOS software updates report, and the iOS and macOS update installation failure reports.
The supported replacement named on that post, and on the Learn update-policy page, is declarative device management (DDM) software-update settings in the settings catalog.
Treat the date as October 2026, not a specific day. Service release 2610 can reach tenants on different days.
The October 2026 (2610) removal is from the indexed text of the Intune Customer Success post. A direct fetch of that page was blocked on October 15, 2026, and the post does not give a calendar day. Microsoft Learn says legacy MDM Apple update policies are deprecated and points admins to declarative device management, without repeating the 2610 date.
